Jane dreamed of leaving behind a successful corporate job out of state to devote her life to helping others, but she didn’t know where to start. When her brother and sister-in-law shared their dream of launching a local medical equipment company to help save lives, Jane knew she wanted to be part of it. Together, the three entrepreneurs opened MedWheels in 2005.
A strong community advocate, Jane was familiar with LiftFund and soon secured working capital for the new company. Over the years, MedWheels established its reputation as a valued national medical supply distributor, providing high-quality equipment to clients, including veterans, local cities and school districts.
When COVID-19 hit San Antonio, the MedWheels team quickly pivoted their focus to providing PPE supplies to health care workers. Due to the sudden increased demand for protective gear, manufacturers began requiring full payment in advance, which soon became a financial strain on the company.
Jane approached LiftFund again, and through the City of San Antonio Buydown program, a partnership between the City of San Antonio and LiftFund, Jane was able to secure a loan to fulfill orders for high-quality protective equipment to serve her customers during the pandemic.
“Running MedWheels during the pandemic has been so humbling because it gives me an opportunity to make a little difference in our community every day, and prevent further loss of life due to COVID-19,” said Jane.
As the MedWheels team works diligently to fulfill PPE supplies orders, they are also preparing for an international expansion to begin serving clients in Mexico in the coming months.
